Yes I know. I haven't posted for a while and a lot has been going on. I'm hoping this will be the first of more frequent posting.

OryCon was a whole lot of fun. I am extremely happy with all the pictures I took as are a lot of other people. I've even had a couple of peole ask if I'm a professional. While not yet, I think I'm getting to the point of being a bit more than a hobbyist.

I've been thinking about it for a while now and am really wondering what might be the next logical step. I was thinking about some classes at the local college specifically about digital photography and Photoshop for digital photography. I could always use more skills.

I think I could use more experience with posed photography too. I've tentatively scheduled a photo shoot for this summer and have some ideas, but could really use some suggestions.

This is mostly me just thinking out loud, but comments are most certainly welcome.

Take some classes if you can, be prepared to spend a lot of money on equipment and try to find someone who will let you assist them on a shoot to get a feel of what it is like. And don't quit your day job...lol

Are you shooting with a digital SLR?

The current camera I have is a pseudo DSLR. I really love it a lot. It's the Canon Supershot S3IS. I know the next step is to get that DSLR camera, but I'm not yet in a place to spend that kind of money...

As much as I'd like to...

I started my digital road with a little olympus camera until I could afford a SLR body to fit my lens, I still have the film body but don't use it. The smaller cameras also give you the chance to see if you want to do something with it before spending the bucks. Full photoshop is almost as expensive as the camera. I also have Lightroom which I love.

Next time I see you we should talk and I will let you play a little with my camera if you want. I plan on doing some hiking and landscape shoots this year, outdoor/nature is my forte even though I have done portraits, weddings and concerts. You have a good eye which is the key to being a good photographer and you can't learn that in school.

I do have Photoshop and Lightroom and do like both - I use them in conjunction with my noise reduction tool and with (of all things) Picasa for some quick and dirty work.

I've got a photographer here in Portland that I'm sure if I asked nicely, she'd let me in on a few shoots, but she's in Africa now, so I'll have to wait until she gets home.

I'd love to see your camera some time.

And thank you for the compliment. :D I'm just getting really excited about the photography stuff. I really like how my recent pictures have been coming out, and then for K to have used some of my Faerieworlds photos in the program for OryCon made me so tickled.

I recommend the Newspace Center for Photography (http://www.newspacephoto.org/classes/). The instructors are generally good; the classes are small. You get a lot of individualized instruction. The number of class sessions is small which is good for really busy people (like me). I usually check out an instructor’s web site before signing up for their class.
