Poking Badgers With Spoons

I went down to Portland this weekend. While I was there, I took pictures for copperwise and she took me out and bought me a new car.

It is a 2011 Honda CR-V. It is VERY nice and I am now living in the future. I have named her Agatha. She is white (taffeta white to be specific). And one of the coolest things is she talks to me when I talk to her. I can ask her to do things like tune the radio or turn on/off the rear defrost or set the cabin temperature and she does it. She helps me find my way when I'm not entirely sure I know where I'm going. And, as I understand it, she will gently remind me (at first) when maintenance is due and if I fail to follow through, the gentle reminders will become nagging.

Now, I must admit to being VERY lazy about registering my old car in Washington. I never did it. So, Agatha is being registered in Washington, never in Oregon, and there will be absolutely no question that I am a Washingtonian now.

And I promise, there will be pictures later. I swear.

I've decided to go back and visit myself in the past for just a moment. I'm going to travel back to this date in 1984, during my freshman year in High School and have a talk.

Me: Hey!

Young Me: Hey!

Me: 25 years from now, on this day, NASA is going to announce they've found arsenic based life!

YM: NO WAY! Like the Horta, only arsenic instead of silicon? That's so cool! Where did they find it? Io? Mars?

Me: No! Right here on Earth!

YM: You're kidding!

Me: Nope. Not one bit. You know what's better? I'm at work and actually watching the NASA press conference.

YM: What's the big deal there? You have a TV at work, right?

Me: Nope. I'm watching on my phone.

YM: Pull the other one.

Me: I'm serious. No joking there.

YM: That's totally AWESOME!

Me: I know, right?!!??! Well, I gotta get back to my time and back to work.

YM: Okay. Will I see you again?

Me: Who knows. Maybe. Oh, by the way, don't let Mom buy most of your clothes at Chess King, okay?

YM: You know that's not going to happen, right?

Me: Yeah, but it was worth a shot.

YM: Hey, do you have flying cars yet?

Me: Sort of but not really for public consumption.

YM: Oh.

Me: Don't worry, there's still a LOT of super cool things to look forward to.

YM: Cool!
