Hey everyone! I’m back from Chicago and mostly recharged now after tipping over and sleeping. Today’s photo was originally intended as the finale for Floral Week last Friday. I do hope you enjoy it.

Christmas is coming up and I DO have prints available for sale! Head on over and visit Tanuki Photography at A Rising Tide to find that perfect gift for the person who has everything including some wall space. And while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other amazing artwork!

Also, if there are any of my previous photos you’d like to see made available as prints, PLEASE let me know!  I can work with A Rising Tide to make more available.

Simplicity

Recently I’ve been thinking about simplicity and simplifying. I’m going through some of that now…a “spring cleaning in winter,” if you will. It’s something I’ve struggled with for a while, but I’m getting better at it. I do find myself asking these questions: How can I simplify my life? How can I reduce clutter? Do I really need this?

It’s a tricky balance, and sometimes I get bogged down in an occasional emotional land-mine, but I soldier on and push through to the other side feeling lighter, and less burdened. And the reduction in clutter and stuff and unnecessary things is happening. There’s a kind of peaceful feeling to it…it takes a while, but the outcome is going to be worth it. And in that regard, this whole process is sort of like a flower budding, growing, and then working hard to bloom into something new and stunning.

On another note, if you’ve simplified recently and find that your walls are too bare, there are some new and stunning photos of mine for sale over at A Rising Tide. There are some other amazing artists selling their work over there as well; check it out. Sure, it means you’ll have another piece of art around the house, but that’s never a bad thing. Art is NOT clutter.

The Locks and the Garden by tanuki_green

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a good weekend and enjoyed the extra hour in whichever way you used it! This week I’m going to be bringing you some of the flowers I’ve photographed over the last year or so. With Autumn coming on and the days getting cooler and a bit more damp around these parts, I figured this week I could bring you some things to look forward to.

Also, I should have some more news regarding photos at A Rising Tide this week.

Memorial Day Weekend 2012 by tanuki_green
Memorial Day Weekend 2012, a photo by tanuki_green on Flickr.

Who needs a peaceful Friday? I think we all do. Everyone I know is hustling and bustling all over the place. Everyone is on the go-go-go! It’s do or die! It’s on to the next big thing! Now! Now! Now!

Okay. Now, stop. Breathe. Listen to the wind. Look at the clouds, the grass. Turn off the laptop, the TV and the phone for a couple of hours. It’s the first days of Fall. The craziness is about to start up again soon. But right now, clear your mind and be at peace.

At least, I imagine that’s what these pieces of grass are telling me. I really ought to listen.

I’m out from under the weather now, in case you were wondering. It’s a fairly nice, though foggy and perhaps a bit smoky still from the fires all around the area.

Today I’d like to give y’all a pretty flower. This little guy grows at the Woodland Park Zoo in the Rain Forest exhibit. It grows will all kinds of orchids and such, though I’m not entirely sure what kind it is.

So, I hope you all like your little flower for the day and I’ll see you all on Friday.

The Joy of Purple Redux by tanuki_green
The Joy of Purple Redux, a photo by tanuki_green on Flickr.

For a “Floral Friday” I present to you a retouched photo I did back in 2007. This was taken with my Canon PowerShot S3 IS camera using the in-camera feature of color selection. I really enjoyed the original results of that shot.

This morning in looking through to find what I was going to post today, I saw that original and thought I might take a hand at updating it a bit in Lightroom 4.1.

It’s been an interesting exercise, going through my back catalog of photos and seeing how I can update them. I think it’s also a testament to the growth I’ve had in my techniques that I can make these better images now.

I guess it’s true what the say… The right tool for the right job.
