“Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth.” For some that’s true. For others it’s the rodeo, a convention, a party, a bookstore…we all have our “happy place” and some of us take longer to find it than others. But isn’t that what life’s about? Finding that place or that thing that makes us happy and then enjoying it to the fullest?

What is my happy place you ask? My happy place is that moment of capturing an image of someone else in their happy place. Being able to capture the emotion of those happy moments is something incredibly special.

So…what makes you happy?

Welcome to Fandom Friday! We wrap up the celebration of fandom with Dmitri. He takes fandom to the next level.

Dmitri is a creator and an artists. He has a love of fandom such that he is working to make a living at it. You can find him in the vendor halls at many a convention in the Pacific Northwest. He does some amazing leatherwork — he’ll even do some custom leatherwork for your costuming needs. He also sells his wares online at Tormented Artifacts.

Dmitri is a man that makes fun his business. Sometimes it’s a frustrating business. But sometimes he gets the chance to do something for himself, and that’s what you see here. This is from Project Stark – the Steampunk Iron Man he’s putting together.

Like I mentioned Monday, this week is fandom week. It’s a look at how we all rejoice in the celebration fandom in our own various ways. Some people have a favorite character that they like to dress up as casually. Other people are a bit more serious about the matter of having fun.

This is Torrey. She celebrates her fandom by creating costumes from scratch from some of her favorite shows/movies and then competing at masquerade balls at various conventions throughout the year. And she’s no slouch either. She’s won several awards for the hard work she puts into her costumes.

So, here’s to Torrey and all the other people for with fun is some awesomely serious work.

In honor of all the conventions happening this coming weekend (WorldCon, DragonCon, PAX, etc.) I’m going to be posting photos showing fandom through my eyes.

This shot was taken at Emerald City Comic Con this last March. I saw her across the sky bridge at the convention center and that smile caught me. This was a person who was having fun. And really, isn’t that what Fandom is about at its roots?

And before anyone asks, I will be attending WorldCon in Chicago this year. And yes, I will have my camera.
